Cleaning: A CHEMEX® coffee maker that is carefully cleaned and treated will last a lifetime. Wash the coffee maker by hand with warm water and soap or place it safely in the dishwasher.

1. Get started with grinding
Grind your favorite coffee with whole beans to a medium coarse grind.

2. Filter up
Open a CHEMEX BondedT coffee filter in the shape of a cone, so that one side of the cone has three layers, and place it in the top of the CHEMEX coffee maker. The thick part with three layers should cover the pouring spout.

3. The spoon
Put one rounded tablespoon of ground coffee for each 5 oz. cup into the filter cone. Feel free to use more if you prefer stronger coffee; our CHEMEX coffee brewing process eliminates bitterness and acidity.

4. Let it bloom
Once you've brought the right amount of water to a boil, remove it from the heat and let it stop boiling vigorously. Pour a small amount of water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion to wet them and wait about 30 seconds for the coffee grounds to "bloom."

5. First pouring
After the coffee grounds have started to bloom, slowly pour water over the coffee grounds while keeping the water level well below the top of the CHEMEX coffee maker (an inch or more).

6. Turn on
Slowly pour the remaining water over the ground coffee, making a circular or back-and-forth motion to evenly saturate the coffee.

7. Discard the filter
Once the desired amount of coffee has been brewed, remove the filter containing the coffee grounds from the brewer and discard it. Our filters are biodegradable and compostable.

8. Enjoy the perfect cup
Pour your freshly brewed coffee into your CHEMEX mug and enjoy the taste.
